Essay Topics: An Attempt to Write a Worthy Story

When teachers provide standard essay topics to their classes, do not expect students to automatically jump at the idea of writing effectively. Chances are students will feel obligated to write something they do not believe in, especially if the given topics have powerful effects in the society.

As an instructor, give the students the freedom to write essay topics that are not just interesting on their part. At the same time, create a study plan that will give them a chance to express their views and opinions applicable in the current societal setting.

1. Causal Essays
From the word cause, causal essay topics refer to subjects that look for the reasons why a certain phenomenon occurred. Hard facts are substantial and a personal opinion is unnecessary. Possible topics: (1) Explain the emergence of the diva attitude and celebrity like lifestyle; (2) Why Beckham, as a soccer player, isn’t a big thing in the US.

2. Persuasive Essays
Essay topics in the persuasive category need an extra effort from the student by presenting genuine proofs. In addition to that, instructors can challenge students to link an essay topic to an instance where almost all readers can relate to. The student’s goal is to convince the readers to believe a point. Possible topics: (1) Peer pressure in high school results to promiscuity and teenage pregnancy; (2) Advertisements with skinny models promote anorexia.

3. Controversial Essays
From the word controversy, essay topics under this category deal with sensitive topics that may raise provocation. Sometimes considered as taboo, these topics have great individual implications. Possible topics: (1) Abuse of power in the Government; (2) Racial discrimination in the workplace.
